Going viral

A recent newsletter from PC Hell.com confirms what many of us have suspected all along — that a vast number of Electronic Greetings Cards contain viruses and most should be considered ‘dangerous’. For example, in a test it found one such email activated a file called msdataaccess.exe and proceeded to disgorge vast amounts of spam and troublesome code. The simple answer is not to download any email that contains a greetings card. But what is really interesting is the following report that demonstrates which antivirus software discovered the malware and, more importantly, which ones didn’t (Norton Antivirus and McAfee were not listed):
